This past week was Spring Break. Since we were in Arizona last Sunday, I didn't get a chance to sit down at a computer and write a post. The week before Spring Break was mostly uneventful, EXCEPT for the fact that the day before Spring Break my kids got a SNOW DAY!!!! We had been having some beautiful warm, spring weather until the weather forecaster predicted a pretty awful storm. We ended up getting about 6 inches of snow, but what really threw it over the edge was that the temperature dropped and we had rain. The result was about 1/2 inch of ice on the roads. It's just not worth risking car accidents in that kind of weather, so the school district ended up canceling school. So, on the Thursday before we left for Arizona, I was left with the challenge of getting the house ready and our bags packed with the kids at home. In the morning, Brooklen's friend, Carter Greiman, came over while his parents went in to work. Later in the day, the Rudd triplets and Jake came over and played. The house was pretty crazy and I worked my butt of that day, but I was grateful that all of my kids were entertained.
On Friday morning, we left our house at 3:15am to drive down to Detroit and catch an 8:00am flight. I was a mess the entire drive because there was still a lot of ice on the roads. The flight was pretty uneventful; we landed in Arizona before noon. My mom picked us up in a rented Expedition and we met Kenzie and her kids at In n Out. I just love those burgers; I'm still a little sad that we only went there one time. In the afternoon, we came back to the house to color eggs and then we went swimming. Normally, Arizona natives don't swim in the Spring, but it felt so warm to my kids that they couldn't stand not getting in. The kids spent the rest of the afternoon playing and we met everyone for dinner at Backyard Taco that evening. That evening, Kenzie's 3 older kids spent the night at my parent's house with my kids.
On Saturday morning, my Mom and I took all of the kids to a park for their ward Easter egg hunt. It went really fast and it was hard to keep track of all of the kids, but they were happy that they got candy. Afterwards, my mom, Kenzie, and I went to Last Chance. We hadn't been to Last Chance on a Saturday in a long time and I wasn't very fond of the experience. It was super crowded and I found very little that day. When we got home, we went to a park to go ice blocking. It was really fun and we had a blast experimenting with different things like getting our whole family (minus Kaiton; he was sleeping) piled on a couple of blocks of ice at the same time. Later that evening, the kids rode horses and we picked up pizza and pasta from Oreganos and ate outside. Before bed, the kids picked citrus and made a bunch of orange juice.
On Sunday, we had an Easter egg hunt in the morning and then we went to my parent's ward for Sacrament meeting. They had a wonderful musical Easter program. After Sacrament meeting, we went home to change and pick up Ethan; then, we got on the road to Tucson to meet my Grandpa for lunch. We met my Grandpa at 2:00pm at a sports bar that he loves. Though I wasn't close to my Grandpa when I was young; I love him very much. I feel so sad that he is always alone and I was so excited to get to bring my family up to Tucson to see him. The lunch was nice, but it was kind of a disaster. Within the first couple of minutes, Zaya started crying that she needed to go to the bathroom. Ethan lifted her up over the table to get her out of the booth and she was already peeing; it got all of the table. The workers at the restaurant were disgusted, but they came and cleaned it up. Rob took the stressful job of cleaning Zaya up and Ethan and I entertained my grandpa. I'm not sure that he even noticed what had happened. The rest of the lunch went fine, but the kids were pretty loud and crazy. Towards the end, Kaiton had had enough and my Grandpa actually snapped at him. After the lunch, we drove home and had a nice Easter dinner with my family.
On Monday, Brooklen and Rob went to a Spring Training game. My mom, Kenzie, and I headed to Scottsdale to go to the mall. We took Kaiton to Build and Bear and he made a Chase dog (a character from Paw Patrol). We ate a yummy lunch at Shake Shack; it had just opened. After hanging out at the mall for a while, we went over to the American Girl store. All of the kids really enjoyed browsing around the store and Hurley and Zaya got their doll's ears pierced. When we finally got all of the kids out of the store, we went to another girly store and my mom let Zaya, Hurley, and Maeli pick out a piece of jewelry.
On Monday evening, my parent's took the three younger kids so that Rob, Brooklen, and I could go to a Coyotes hockey game. I was pretty excited to go to my first NHL game and it didn't disappoint. The Coyotes lost their game, but just being at the huge arena and watching the game, was so exciting. It was also pretty great to spend time alone with just Rob and Brooklen. I can't remember the last time that happened.
On Tuesday, we spent the morning with Kenzie and her kids at Freestone Park while my mom worked at the temple. The kids had so much fun playing baseball, playing at the park, and feeding the ducks. All 4 of my kids thought feeding the ducks was so fun! In the evening, we had family pictures taken and then we went to a Mexican Restaurant.
On Wednesday, we went to the Red's stadium for a Spring Training game. My dad's client, Bryan Price, is the manager of the Reds, so he got us front row seats right behind the catcher. Rob, Brooklen, and Ryan were super excited to have such good seats. I spent most of the time trying to entertain Kaiton, but I was grateful to get to be at one of the games for free! After the game, the boys took the kids home and my mom, Kenzie, and I went to Last Chance again. I found so many great shoes at Last Chance. I am definitely sold on going there at night. It was not very busy and I was able to find so many great things.
On Thursday, we went to the Cubs stadium and let Brooklen and Rob walk around for a couple of hours. Kenzie and I watched the kids at Riverview Park, which was so much fun! In the afternoon, we went to see Zootopia at the movie theater. In the evening, we ate pasta for dinner and then rode horses one last time. Rob was leading a horse while Kaiton rode on it. For some reason, the horse got scared and bucked Kaiton off. Luckily he wasn't hurt, but he was definitely scared. Before the end of the night, I rode a horse with Kaiton and he seemed to forget all about the incident. He was so excited to feed the horses before bed. Before bed, my friend, Lauren, came over and we had a nice time chatting.
On Friday, we had to leave for the airport at 4:00am. It was super early, but the kids were so good. We had such a wonderful time. My parents were so gracious and I just love spending time with my family making memories. I can't thank them enough for everything they did for/with us.
This weekend was General Conference. We came back to snowy weather and we enjoyed a nice, warm weekend in our house.
